Fish-Cleaning Sink in the Van
#1
A while ago, someone here (and alas I no longer remember who it was) mentioned the possibility of using one of those molded-plastic fish-cleaning sinks from the sporting goods store in the van. It sounded like a good idea, so I gave it a try--and I like it.  Smile

Here is what I am talking about:

And here is one in place across the back of my van:

What I like about it:

It's lightweight, and the legs fold up if you need to store it.

The sink bowl is molded in, so it won't leak around the rim.

It's just the right height for me, so I don't get a cramped back when I wash up in the sink.

There's lots of counter space for cooking, cleaning and dish-washing. (My cutting board and doo-dad storer are velcro'd to the surface so they don't slide off when I drive.)

It comes with a faucet that you can connect to a hose and a water supply to get gravity-fed running water. I didn't need this part so I didn't install it.

What I didn't like about it:

The drain part screws together in the bottom of the sink, and it sticks up about a quarter inch, leaving a bit of water in the bowl when you drain it. I didn't like that, so I made some modifications to fix it: I used waterproof sealant to glue the sink drain directly into the bowl, then glued the drain tube directly to the bottom to make a watertight seal. So now the bowl empties almost completely into a five-gallon bucket underneath.

I consider it a winner.  So thanks, whosever idea that was........   Smile

I've seen those at Rural King Farm Supply Stores.

I've been around plenty of fishing Camps where signs were posted not to clean fish on the picnic tables.  There are always those who don't understand why when they are asked to get out by the proprietor.   So having your own place to dress the fish makes good sense.

That seems like a good idea. I would like to have a closer look. With those angled braces, my first thought was to remove the legs and build it into/onto a wooden support for more convenient storage underneath.
