The only effect that a thin paint is going to have on a vehicle is light/heat reflection. Glossy white will help to bounce it off a bit, and matte black will absorb it.

I've always wondered what attaching a space blanket would do on a van roof.  Magnets to secure it.   As in, when needed.
If I could get a Mylar that is easily applied and cheap I would be tempted to try glueing it on.
 I suppose chrome paint would also work.  Hmmmm?

Actually there is a better solution and one that has another big benefit to it. Cover as much of your roof as you can with solar panels.
