Balloon festival in Albuquerque - PECVD2 - 10-10-2019

just curious.

Is anyone in Albuquerque for the festival?

No but I have been watching some of the live video and was watching the gas balloon tracking....a couple of them landed in Canada, and are so far from any roads that they will have to be recovered by helicopter.

THAT is an expensive hobby....

T2S  yea it has been a good year for the fiesta and especially the locals as they fixed the parking problem they have had for years and the weather mostly cooperated.

My wife worked for a ballooning company for years, they did hot air charters but also gas ballooning all over the world.  One year they also had to be airlifted out of somewhere near Kawartha (?) lakes in Canada. It took several weeks to get a crew together to get the gondola out ($$$$).

I crewed back in the late 1990's....that was fun, wow...flew a couple of times...chased...but the fiesta has gotten so big and the crowds and traffic and expenses involved....count me out!

I still enjoy it...but from a distance now.

I was actually there last weekend! But I've since left ABQ. It's an awesome time, I highly recommend to anyone who hasn't gone.

I parked at the cottonwood mall and took the shuttle in. I'd say it's well worth the extra 5 bucks to do so. The cottonwood mall is also adjacent to the only Walmart in town that allows overnight parking.

I'd also say bring your own food. The food prices there were insanity for what amounts to mostly carnival food.

Does that mean they no longer allow overnighting at the Walmart on Coors just off I-40?
