used wave8 - desert_sailing - 05-23-2020

Saw a local ad for a used Olympian wave 8 for sale asking 125 bux.

I was planing on getting a new wave 3 as I figure that will be sufficient.

The wave 3 new is going for $190ish. A new wave 8 for around 300$,

Are any of you fine folks aware of issues with these heaters that I should be aware of that would make purchasing the USED wave 8 a bad deal?

I would of course rather fork out 70 bux to have a new working product than save 175 bux on a pile of crap that would end up in the landfill.

I think I had seen a video speaking about the "cells" becoming clogged because of improperly filtered propane?

Any advice?

Thanks!

I bought a wave3 for $160. when it was on sale.
I would wait for the sale as summer is coming, and the 3 is plenty adequate for a van. (Rated for 100 sq ft)
You have to keep them covered when not in use, because the dust that sits on it and later burns, is what degrades the heating fabric.

Thanks for the tip.

I really didn't want to buy yet another used item that needs work to be useful.  I've never been much of a shopper but waiting for a sale this summer would be great! I will be on the look out.

I had seen the the warnings to cover them regarding dust. I figured someone was just trying to control my housekeeping routine..LOL Now I know Smile

I have a feeling that the used wave8 is probably faulty. Buying used is such a questionable endeavour when not coming from friends or family. The used (faulty) sewing machine that I recently purchased has really made me head shy.. especially after being told it was in great working order...Sad

Too many people  in the World trying to game a few bucks at the expense of others... really a sad state of affairs.

Thank goodness I have only a couple more "big ticket" items to finish the build.
