Elsie, good you are getting it fixed and it wasn't out of commission. To dissuade mice, some people open the hood at night (didn't dissuade the packrat that ate part of my engine wiring), and some people put strong led lights under the hood at night. I've not tried the latter. I certainly wouldn't ever put "baited" traps in the engine compartment. Welcome to dinner, little mouse!!

I did pick up Liquid Electrical Tape at Home Depot this week. Got white color so I can tell where it's painted on if I use it.

Here are couple of things that I use to deter mice:

(1) An LED strobe light placed in the engine bay pointed down. It's AC so it has to be used with an inverter. I hook it up to a 400w Cobra inverter that I connect to the batt with alligator clips. My van has an under-hood light and I'll eventually wire in a DC plug to make connection easier. It uses very little juice so you could use a much smaller inverter.

(2) Periodically spray the wiring in the engine compartment:

(3) Fresh Cab. Storing them in small food containers during the day will extend their useful life. Walmart sells a trio of Rubbermaid containers for $4-$5.

(4) For catching them once they're in, Tomcat glue traps work well.  4-Pack avail. at WM.
