Maybe the bugs in this link:
https://www.houzz.com/discussions/235431...black-bugs

A Google image search on your image found the link.

"They are some kind of water gnats! They produce rapidly generally around the months of June and July. When an increase in warmer temperatures arise, so do these bugs! "

Now this is the kind of challenge I like

when you say very small - how small is that? speck of pepper, edge(side) of penny, grain of rice, ...
definitely not a bug - it is a beetle - and a female at that - notice ovipositor at back end. the pic is blurry when I enlarge of course - but is ther a trace of color on the thorax "neck" area?
other clues to id are is it with many others or solitary and can you tell what is eating?
and are the antennae segmented?
have you seen it fly?
and is it leaving a trail - droppings or fluid?

sorry for being so detailed but I am a field biologist with OCD

Oh yes that kind - I believe the are of the genus - dead beetle. I understand that they are quite delicious when sauteed in a light garlic butter. (man this social distancing cabin fever is getting to me) You might try hanging s light over a pan of very soapy water at night. That will catch a lot of them. and you might get them all in several nights.

You learn something new every day - sometimes twice a day. Do you think they bored in as adults or that their eggs survive the manufacture process?

If those ARE wood boring or powder post beetles, they will eventually go away...they tend to prefer wood that is within a narrow range of moisture content, so when it drops below what they like, they wont bother you anymore. Look for tiny little exit holes, and tiny little piles of wood dust near or under the holes, on the floor, or carpet, etc.

Now, the acres and acres of forest you are camped nearby could be reduced to dust in 20 years....but who cares.

Happen to know what flavor of soap they like best?
